UMW

The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Goals

The main focus of the UMW is to reach out to the community in missions through our circles, retreats and spiritual growth gatherings.  In addition, our organization provides and supports leadership development of its members to give women of all racial, ethnic, language and economic groups the opportunity to realize their full potential and to participate in the life of the church and society. 

Purpose

The Mary and Martha Circle

"We are a group of women who want to strengthen our Christian relationships through fellowship, fun, reaching out to others and supporting our church." 

Meet: Once a month; 3rd Thursday 7-9 p.m.

Early Bird Circle

"We put our words into action through various hands-on projects throughout the year supporting the Mt. Zion Craft Show, local nursing homes, Mt. Zion shut-ins, MUST, and various charities. We also have a mix of programs ranging from summer field trips to health experts to mission speakers."

Meet: Once a month; 2nd Tuesday 9:30-11 a.m. in the Youth Center.

Dorthea Circle

"We are a special group of women ages 60+ who meet for fellowship, refreshments, and occasionally scheduled programs."

Meet: Every other month; 2nd Tuesday.

Susanna Circle

"We are dedicated to supporting each other through Christian fellowship and reaching out to others in our community, our nation, and the world through our service projects."

Meet: Once a month; 1st Tuesday 7-8:30 p.m. in a member's home.

Circle Chair: April Conaway

Alleluluia Circle

"We are a group of women of all ages who meet for Christian fellowship at local restaurants and members homes."

Meet: Once a month; 2nd Thursday 7-8:30 p.m.

Keepsake Quilters

"We enjoy fellowship while sewing for charity. Keepsake Quilters started with the purpose of designing and sewing the craft show quilt.  We quickly expanded our vision into sewing quilts for many charities such as: DFACS, Red Cross, Grand Junction Camp for Chronically Ill Children, Project Linus, Tiny Stitches, and other various charities." Meets at Tiny Stitches, 2518 East Piedmont Road Marietta, GA 30062

Meet: Twice a month; 3rd and 4th Tuesday 9:30-11 a.m.

Tiny Stitches

"Join us to sew, serge, knit or crochet baby items that are donated to the Tiny Stitches Organization in Duluth where volunteers put together layettes of 30+ items and take them to hospitals in seven counties in north Georgia for indigent families. Tiny Stitches provides patterns, fabric, ribbing and yarn for all of their projects. We just provide the labor and love. You may also pick up supplies and work on your projects at home. Yarn Spinners

The Yarn Spinners Fellowship provides an opportunity for beginning knitters, experienced knitters, and crocheters to get together, to help each other, to exchange knitting tips, patterns, and ideas, and to enjoy each other’s company. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30 AM in the Youth Center.

Craft Show

What?

Every year, Mt. Zion UMW organize a craft show displaying crafts from local artists. This is a great opportunity to find unique homemade holiday gifts. On top of local vendors, UMW orchestrates a frozen meal sale, silent auction, bake sale, and a door prize. There will also be pictures with Santa and a chance to win a quilt. There is no admission charge and all proceeds go to charity.

When?

The 2017 UMW Mt. Zion Craft Show will be Nov. 10-11. Friday, the event will go from 9 a.m.-5p.m. On Saturday, the event will go from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Where?

The gym and mezzanine will be transformed into a a fair with stalls, laughter, and delicious food for sale.

We are only accepting applications for local vendors of arts and crafts. If interested in this wonderful event, please review the application that details requirements and the acceptable wares. Click on the link below to download the PDF.

Volunteers

Each year, we need a few volunteers to help during the event. Placements include:

  • Bake Sale
  • Silent Auction (to watch over the items)
  • Greeters (also assist in signing people up for the door prize)
  • Craft Show setup (Wednesday before show after WOW events)
  • Vendor check-in
  • Craft Show Tear Down
